Fun with Friends at UMNH

Recently a few friends and I had the opportunity to visit the new UMNH building that is being constructed.

Now I am sure your thoughts are the same as mine.  We all should go into the construction field because hard hats and orange made us look SEXY.  In all seriousness (side note-yes I can be serious... sometimes) I appreciate the caution Big D construction took having us tour the facility.

The building itself isn't due to complete until sometime next year but we were able to check out some of the stunning features like the copper ore used on the exterior of the building.  And since it is the UTAH Museum of Natural History it is great to know the copper came from our own Bingham Canyon mine.

Since I LOVE UNMH I am so excited for this new facility. Now thanks to this elevator...

...and all the extra space in the new facility Utah can now bring in some of the larger traveling displays from around the nation.

Of course the new museum will be full of hands-on activities for the whole family but did you know the current building also has those?  And one of my family's favorite days to visit is on "What's in the Basement" day.  And since the new building has no basement, this is the final year.

This year "What's in the Basement?" is on October 9th and we get to see all the preparations to pack and move the millions of objects.  I know I will be there, will you?  I'll be the one in the foam dinosaur hat... well because they're rad.

And while you are in the area... why not stop by and visit Corner Bakery?  I went there for the first time after the tour and fell in love with all the tasty treats they have.

And the price?  Beyond reasonable.

Thanks to Vanessa and UMNH for providing us with a lovely morning.
Corner Bakery provided us with lunch but me thinking it was tasty?  All my own.
