You Really Have To Watch Out for Eddie Murphy

Josh, my 15 year old, went to his first boy/girl party this past weekend.  After getting over the initial shock of him being old enough to attend a party I did all the "responsible parent" stuff.  Called the Mom, made sure there were plenty of adult chaperones, no alcohol, no smoking, no access to closed off bedrooms, etc etc etc.  I was pretty amazed at how grown up I could be in the moment.

My son returned from the party that night and was beaming with pride.  "Mom, GUESS WHAT?!?!"  Okay... I'll bite, "What?"  "Mom, you are seriously going to be so proud of me.  They were watching a Rated R movie and I left the room and didn't even watch it.  I was so responsible Mom.  It was amazing of me huh?"  Fuming, livid, and ready to strangle someone, "What movie was it?  Were the parents there?  Who shows a Rated R  movie to kids?"  Smiley fading quickly, "Ummmm, I dunno. Haunting or something."  Remembering my son did a good thing, "I am very happy you didn't watch the movie but, next time call me and I will come get you."

At this point I was beyond upset.  I mean I call parents if I am showing anything over a PG movie to kids.  There are plenty of PG-13 movies I wouldn't EVER let me kids see even though they are both over 13.  I really never thought to ask about movies when I called the Mom.  I figured I should probably calm down a little before contacting the girl's parents.

The next day I wanted to see if Josh could remember the name of the movie.  He said, "It was Haunted Mansion."  I couldn't contain my laughter, "Josh that is based upon the ride at Disneyland and is not Rated R.  It is PG."   A light seemed to click in his head, "Oh, I thought it was weird they were letting the little kids watch a rated R movie."  Still laughing, "Why did you think it was Rated R?"  A very serious look comes over Josh's face, "Well Mom, it DID have Eddie Murphy in it.  You really have to watch out for that guy."

Point taken, have you seen Meet Dave?  It should be Rated N... for NEVER watch.
